With growth comes change- a goodbye from c0-founder Alyx
to the beautiful women of flow & fern collective,
when bella and i first began flow & fern, i thought we were creating retreats and community spaces. what i didn't realize was that we were creating permission.
permission for women to soften. to be witnessed. to arrive exactly as they were, without having to perform, compete, or become someone else before they were worthy of belonging.
one of the greatest gifts this community has given me is the reminder that women see more beauty in one another than we often give ourselves credit for. time and time again, i watched complete strangers offer their time, talents, wisdom, encouragement, and hearts in service of one another. not because they expected anything in return, but because something beautiful happens when women remember they were never meant to do this life alone.
i've also been humbled by how many women arrived carrying wounds left by other women. stories of betrayal, exclusion, comparison, or feeling like there simply wasn't a place for them. so many shared that they never imagined they'd feel safe walking into a community like this.
and then they did.
they were welcomed.
they were celebrated.
they realized they didn't have to earn belonging.
i've come to believe that the more we heal the wound we carry around the femininity of others, the more we heal the wound we carry around our own.
because when we stop seeing one another as competition, we become mirrors. we remind each other of what has always been there beneath the expectations, the striving, and the fear.
our world teaches us that leadership looks like climbing over one another toward something scarce. but flow & fern reminded me that real leadership looks like empowerment. it looks like extending a hand instead of building another ladder. it looks like creating spaces where every woman leaves a little more certain of herself than when she arrived.
i hope this community continues to become a place where more women step into creation. where they share their gifts, host gatherings, teach classes, tell stories, make art, build businesses, start conversations, and create the kind of world they long to live in. because creation has always been one of our greatest gifts.
i also hope these spaces continue making room for the conversations that deserve more sunlight. conversations about sensuality, sexuality, grief, shame, joy, and the complicated relationships many of us have with other women. every expression of femininity is different, and perhaps that is exactly what makes it so beautiful. none of us are meant to look the same. none of us are meant to walk the same path.
as i step away from flow & fern, i do so with an incredibly full heart. as i go on to carry this work into new places, sitting with women in small villages, bustling cities, quiet corners of the world, and communities that may have never had a space quite like this, i want to continue witnessing what becomes possible when women gather not to prove themselves, but simply to be. it feels less like i'm leaving, and more like i'm carrying a seed that was planted here into new soil - inspired by each of you.
to every woman who attended an event, shared a story, cried, laughed, hugged a stranger, volunteered your gifts, or simply walked through the door despite your fears, thank you.
you have reminded me, over and over again, of the extraordinary power of women in community.
my deepest hope is that whoever walks through the doors of flow & fern years from now feels the same thing so many of us have felt before them: a deep breath. the trust that they don't have to show up in any particular way. that who they are, in that very moment, is already enough.
i've planted an altar of flowers at the feet of what i know will continue to be a beautiful and fruitful creation. i leave knowing this community is bigger than any one person. it belongs to every woman who has ever found herself within it, and every woman who still will.
the world doesn't need more women proving themselves. it needs more women remembering themselves.
with endless love,
alyx 🌹
