what you already know: inner wisdom is stronger than we believe

an opinion blog piece from alyx

there is a kind of wisdom that doesn't announce itself.

it doesn't arrive in a lightning bolt moment. it doesn't come from the right book or the right teacher or finally figuring it all out.

it comes quietly. usually when your hands are busy. when you are in the garden, or the kitchen, or sitting somewhere outside with no particular agenda.

it comes when you are connected to something real.

i have been thinking a lot lately about what it means to truly know something. not intellectually. not because someone told you. but because your body recognizes it as true.

that quiet inner knowing. the one we spend so much energy talking ourselves out of.

we live in a world that rewards certainty. that values credentials and logic and proof. and those things matter. but they are not the whole picture.

because some of the most important truths we carry cannot be found in research or analysis. they can only be felt. in the body. in the bones. in the place that already knew long before the mind caught up.

the sage within us is not just a thinker. she is a feeler. a noticer. a woman who has learned that wisdom lives at the intersection of curiosity and stillness.

she asks good questions. and then she gets quiet enough to hear the answers.

a few things i have noticed

when we are disconnected from the earth, we are often disconnected from ourselves.

when we create with our hands — plant something, paint something, make something — something in us remembers.

that we are not just minds moving through the world. we are living, sensing, knowing beings. rooted in something much older than our thoughts.

this month, i want to invite you back into that.

a practice for this month

find one moment this june to create something with your hands.

plant a seed. paint something imperfect. write something you have never said out loud. make something just for the joy of making it.

and notice what comes up. what you feel. what you remember. what you already know.

because the wisdom you are looking for is often already living in you.

it is just waiting for you to get quiet enough to hear it.
